Café Frühling

Spring - a compelling name for a coffee place as it instantly evokes good memories. And when your day starts out with springlike feelings, like here in Kleinbasel, things can only get better.

But what if all you want to sleep in just a little longer? You are in good company at Café Frühling where they serve breakfast all day long on weekends.

I find it fabulous that they use mostly regional products, such as in my favorite item on the menu: The Lumberjack Breakfast. It is the perfect boost of energy to wake up from hibernation and feel like a bear.

La Fourchette

La Fourchette is a small and cozy cafe with a French twist, located in Kleinbasel.

Every day, you get to enjoy breakfast until lunchtime. And on Sundays starting at 9 AM, La Fourchette offers a great brunch selection which is not to be missed.

As you enter this young café with a creative vibe, the fresh aromas of baked goods and coffee fill the air. There is a long display counter by the window which is usually lined with fresh and homemade salads, quiches, Flammkuchen, as well as pancakes that come with maple syrup, jam and honey.

Do not forget to try their homemade pastry selection. La Fourchette pays special attention to sustainable and organic products and endorses direct trade in particular. They make sure that all the vegetables and fruits are from local farmers and small businesses in the region.

With very friendly staff in a relaxed and casual atmosphere, it is exactly how I want to enjoy my Sunday brunch... One important piece of advice: Reserve a table in advance as this place gets quite crowded.

Nomad Eatery & Bar

How about spending your Sunday at a design hotel in Basel, accompanied by the sound of live jazz or classical music? Nomad Hotel Bar Eatery is just the place. Opened in January 2016, the Nomad has a nice variety on their brunch buffet: From cold cuts and tasty fresh salads full of surprises to warm food that will make you wonder what is next.

From 11 AM to 3:30 PM on Sundays, the food keeps coming fresh out of the kitchen. One tray is full of mini hamburger bites, and we just had to try one. Do not forget to leave some appetite for dessert as there are plenty of options to choose from.

Great ambience, great service and nice live music will make you feel as if you have stepped into a whole other world. The brunch is pricey at 44 francs per person, but make sure to reserve a table.

Les Gareçons

Les Gareçons serve delicious breakfast and brunches for carnivores, vegans or vegetarians.

Located inside the German train station in Basel, Les Garecons offers a lot more than just breakfast and brunch: They show soccer games, serve lovely candle light dinners and exhibit art.

The location is awesome and is split into three parts: The smallest room is the bar with an outdoor space for smokers. Next to it is a big dining and event space with high ceilings. But the best part about Les Gareçons is the garden which is only open in spring and summer.

Very friendly staff and fluffy pancakes make this one of my favorite places for breakfast in Basel. Try it out Saturdays from 9 AM to 3 PM, Sundays from 10 AM until closing, or anytime during the week from 9 to 11 AM. My recommendation: Make a reservation for Sundays when it is most crowded.

ZUM KUSS - Caffè Kultur Bar

As a globetrotter, I like the proximity to a train station. It is a good thing that in Basel, two of my favorite breakfast stops are just minutes away from the station: Zum Kuss and Markthalle.

I prefer the stylish atmosphere of Zum Kuss for breakfast dates. (The café's name stands for "kiss", after all.)

The Caribbean Breakfast beats them all, but I always have to smile about the Italian Breakfast on their menu: Espresso doppio, two smokes and some homemadeTotenbeinli cookies...

Markthalle

For Sunday "Brunch & Games" outings with my nieces and nephews, Markthalle is the place to be.

Various booths offer delicious breakfast choices for grown-ups and kids, while special events keep the little ones busy. Look out for their new "Zmorgeland" concept, which is an all-you-can-eat brunch heaven for 34 francs per person.
