Can I Use Canned Green Beans with this Green Beans with Brown Sugar Recipe?

I don’t recommend using canned green beans for this recipe. Canned green beans are already cooked so you are just essentially warming them up. They will probably get too mushy.

Fresh beans will be crisp and will allow the sugar mixture to caramelize bringing out the flavors.

Items Needed:

Dijon Mustard: You can use your favorite brand of Dijon Mustard to add that distinctive flavor.

Butter: To help brown and flavor the green beans.

Brown Sugar: Brown sugar will add some sweetness to the green bean dish. Combine it with the Dijon Mustard and butter to create a unique and flavorful sauce.

Fresh Green Beans: Our main ingredient. Canned green beans aren’t recommended because they won’t retain that crispness. Just take the fresh green beans and snap the ends off of them.

Water: This will help cook and kind of steam the green beans.

Salt & Pepper: Just to add a little extra flavor to the green beans with brown sugar recipe.

Green Beans with Brown Sugar Recipe

If you haven’t tried brown sugar and Dijon mustard with your green beans, you are missing out! The brown sugar and mustard caramelize onto the green beans giving you a tasty dish.

Cook: 15 Minutes

Ingredients:

  • 1 1/2 tablespoons of Dijon mustard
  • 1 1/2 tablespoons of brown sugar
  • 4 cups of green beans
  • a 1/2 teaspoon of salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon of pepper
  • a 1/2 tablespoon of butter
  • 1/3 cup of water

How to make these brown sugar and Dijon mustard green beans:

Trim the ends off the fresh green beans and place them in a pan with 1/3 cup of water.

Set to medium-high heat and saute the green beans for 6 to 8 minutes. Add in the butter and saute for another 3 minutes.

Test the green beans. They should still be crisp but tender enough to eat. If not cook them for a few more minutes until they have reached your desired doneness.

Then, lower the heat to low and toss in brown sugar and Dijon mustard. Stir thoroughly so the green beans are coated with the brown sugar Dijon mustard sauce.

As you toss them in the heat, the sauce will caramelize onto the green beans.

Sprinkle with salt and pepper and remove from heat.

These green beans with Dijon mustard and brown sugar are best served as a warm side dish to go along with your tasty dinner!
