Eating, napping and eating again - A Lady Goes West (2024)

I don’t think I’ve ever referred to Wednesday as “hump day.” Do you guys use that term? Yes, it’s technically the middle of the week, but I’m just not a fan. But you know what Iam a fan of? Food. Yes, I love food. I spend a lot of timeeating food and thinking about food. That’s why I’m so glad you guys like to stop by every Wednesday to see what I’ve been munching on.

Everything I ate on a lazy weekend day

Today, I’m branching out a bit and showing you my eats from Sunday, a day in which I didn’t work out and didn’t eat many of my regular meals at all. It was a rest day and also one of the only days of the week in which I wasn’t teaching any group fitness classes. Because, Dave and I attended a holiday party on Saturday night, where the wine and appetizers were flowing, I kept my Sunday eating a little bit on the lighter side, somewhat unintentionally as the gap between meals was unplanned. I’m not big into candy (although I have a huge sweet tooth), but for some reason on Saturday night, peanut M&Ms were my best friend, and I finished off a bowl of them in-between chatting. It happens. I made up for it with some extra veggies in the form of juices on Sunday. Here’s what the whole day of eatinglooked like, with a little bit of fun information about my life tucked in …

Breakfast at 9 a.m.

A steaming mug of green tea, Green Supreme cold-pressed juice by Organic-Overloadand warm vanilla protein oats with a banana.

Wow late breakfast! That’s because we stayed out later than normal on Saturday night while attending the friend’s Christmas partyI referenced above. And even though I had been up for a while before eating this breakfast, Dave was still sleeping, so I couldn’t bang around in the kitchen. City-living problems of course. This may look like my regular bowl of overnight oats, but don’t be confused. This is a hot breakfast. I combined oats, almond milk and vanilla protein powder and microwaved it for about three minutes, stirring a few times. Then I topped it off with a banana. It was a nice change of pace for my first meal of the day, which is usually a big, cold bowl of prepared oats from the fridge. On the side, I had both a hot and a cold green beverage, filling me with all the vitamins, nutrients and antioxidants that I needed to jump-start the day.

Mid-morning snack at 11:30 a.m.

Just a little Tropical Paradise cold-pressed juice by Organic-Overload, which was quite tasty.

That’s all she wrote for snack time. Because Dave and I were heading out to lunch, he discouraged me from having a meal-sized snack, which I’m often guilty of. So instead, I had this fruit and veggie juice (consisting of carrot, romaine, orange and apple),to hold me over until our next meal, which was supposed to be happening very soon. You may notice that this juice is the same kind that I enjoyed at breakfast. The founder ofOrganic-Overload reached out to me last week and dropped off a bundle-pack of the company’s cold-pressed and rawjuices for me to try. Of the three I drank, the Overload Special was by far my favorite (not shown, because I drank it on Monday), and that one consisted of spinach, celery, cucumber, apple and pear, which makes a great flavor combination. If you’re a Bay Area reader and want some healthy juice delivered, check out Organic-Overload. It’s a brand new company just getting off the ground as of last month, which you can see by the temporary hand-written labels. As always, I support and appreciate any health-focused Bay Area start-up like this, and I wish them luck!

Lunch at 2:30 p.m.

A heap of pulled-pork on a bed of mixed greens, purple onions, tomatoes, chickpeas and balsamic dressing. A killer spread.

Do you see the gap in time between my not-exactly-a-snack and when we ate lunch? We drove out to the ‘burbs, it took a while to find a place, and then we had some atrocious and strange customer service at a spot in an Alameda shopping center called Best Lil’ Porkhouse. It was a big and well-decorated restaurant that smelled great, but the service was not so good. You know what was good? That salad. I mean delicious. I don’t eat pork all that often, but they were out of chicken (yeah, I know?) so I had to have the pulled pork. I finished every bite, and there was a lot of meat on there. So yummy to switch things up for lunch. But I don’t think we’ll be going back there any time soon due to the fact that our waiter was awful and very, very slow. It put a damper on our afternoon and we actually scratched our plans to start Christmas shopping after that. Let’s just say I got hangry and tired. Although the nice lunch revived me, we knew that theshopping ship had sailed.

Dinner at 7:30 p.m.

A salmon and avocado rainbow roll made with brown rice and some seaweed and kale salad.

Another big gap in there with no snack? Well, that’s because I spent almost an hour-and-a-half of that time napping after we got home. I rarely nap, but I really needed it I guess. I was in a deep sleep on the couch, while Dave watched TV, and it felt good. We had already discussed dinner earlier in the day, and I won the battle. Thus we had picked up Whole Foods sushi right after lunch, and it was awaiting us in the fridge. True story: We ate sushi for dinner every night this past weekend, because I really craved it. Dave went along with it out of convenience, but said we can’t have it this weekend. I don’t know about that. Whole Foods sushi is my favorite, and this was soooo yummy. I had quite a bit of the kale and seaweed salad left over (it comes in a big plastic tub, and that’s just half of it on my plate up there) and added it to my lunch onMonday too. Strange, but delicious. Oh and can you see that we ate nearly an hour earlier than usual? That’s a win in my book.

After dinner, I took my customary chugs of almond milk straight from the carton, and we watched some Weeds on Netflix to finish off the night. It was not my normal day of eats, certainly much less than usual, but it included some colors and variety, which is always a good thing.

That’s a wrap on the food

I hope your week is going well, and I hope you are enjoying some tasty and healthy meals today. And hey, stay away from the bowl of peanut M&Ms, because believe me, you can’t have just one handful. You can’t.

Okay, I’ll see you tomorrow for some random Thursday thoughts. Bye, friends!
