Today I’m writing about JOY! For me, what makes me happy is never “stuff” (because I know it will never last), nor food, like this Epic Grilled Breakfast Charcuterie Board, which is so dang good. I get asked all the time, “can you have charcuterie for breakfast?”

What is a breakfast board?

Perfect for any breakfast fan, or weekend gathering, this breakfast charcuterie board is a perfect way to let your guests graze on breakfast favorites like meat, eggs, cheese, fruit, and more. A Breakfast Board is simply a variety of brunch or breakfast foods that are set out and beautifully arranged on a board, platter, or tray.

How do you keep a breakfast charcuterie board warm?

In general, I get asked this all of the time. It’s easy to keep the “hot foods hot” while you prepare the board (or wait for folks to wake up). To keep food warm, place the food in your oven on low, and then right before serving, add to the Big Board.

Don’t forget to add a “hot pad” to the board for the hot dishes!

I find joy in making my epic boards and hosting others in our home. Our home is not fancy, by any means. In fact, serving dinner boards, or charcuterie boards, is a very casual way to host! And hosting is truly about the people!

Entertaining: it’s not about you, it’s all about them.

How to make an epic breakfast charcuterie board

  1. On an epic board, arrange the food (make it pretty!), laying it down flat (easy to serve). Of course, don’t place the “hot” food down until you’re ready to dig in!
  2. Make your own crostini by slicing a baguette and sprayin with olive oil on both sides. Sprinkle lightly with Sea salt on one side. In a hot oven, toast each side for about 1 minute.
  3. Grill the bratwurst and cook the bacon. Make sure the eggs are pre-cooked, peeled and cooled in the fridge.
  4. Grill the tomato slices by spraying with olive oil and placing on the grill for a couple minutes on each side. (Optional to use fresh tomatoes without grilling them.)
  5. Prepare a large board with a tray or plate for the center (for the meat and the eggs).
  6. Place the butter and jellies in small bowls.
  7. Arrange the remaining ingredients on the board. Serve right away when the hot meat is added!

Happiness and joy

Happiness is so much more about looking at our blessings, and not at material things that can weigh us down.

But joy is even deeper than happiness, and it lasts longer than being excited–it’s satisfying, rich and full.

This morning I find myself feeling the cool morning air, as all of the windows and doors are open in the house. I’m in a quiet place of reading and enjoying creation and listening to the morning sounds.

I’ve been thinking this past week, about how I can change up my routine and add a few elements of both happiness and joy into my life this week.

5 ways to bring joy into your life

Do what you love. Maybe it’s music, art, being with people, the outdoors, learning new things. Do what you love, because it brings a sense of fulfillment. Go in search of what inspires you deeply – Look for God – and then share it with others.

  1. Do something for others. Keep it simple – bake, bring a meal, give a ride, take someone out to coffee and listen to their story, help a neighbor, volunteer!
  2. Connect with people. Our relationships can have an almost magical effect on our happiness. Connect with new or old people, and learn more about their lives, which can be very inspiring.
  3. Value experiences over things. Things are nice, but the joy we get from experiences lasts longer. For example, our family time is much better when we get into the outdoors and experience something new together, and just talk. You will have those memories for a long time.
  4. Learn and grow from what you read or what podcast you listen to daily. Set aside time to pray, settle into “quiet.” Embrace the solitude. For me, it’s walking in nature.
  5. Host a dinner party. People need one another. Host a breakfast or brunch and make one large Breakfast Charcuterie!
