Planning for required placement exams
If you plan torequest accommodations for a placement exam, do soat least three days beforeyou take the test. Typical accommodations include extended time, alternative exam formats, readers and scribes. This request is separate from theregistration processfor accommodations during the academic year.
Math Placement Test (MPT)
Math Placement Testingis required for all Engineering students (regardless of your anticipatedAP, IB, or CCPcredit). Engineering students are required to take the online math placement test no later than May 24, 2024. Failure to take the Math Placement Test by this time will result in scheduling delays and limitations during your first term of enrollment.
Your MPT placement level does not supersede any AP, IB and/or college credit. Yourplacement level will be used in conjunction with anticipated/earned credit as aninformative tool to discuss math readiness and math options at Ohio State with ouracademic advisors at orientation. Your results on the math placement exam will determine both your starting place in Ohio State’s math sequence and your eligibility for several science courses. You cannot retake the exam, so prepare accordingly; we recommend reviewingsample problems and exam topicsbefore taking the exam.
All incoming AU 2024 Freshmen who have more than one of the following:
- MPT (OSU Math Placement Test)
- Math AP AB or BC (earned or pending)
- CCP
- A-levels
- IB (taken prior to AU 2021)
Please attend an Optional Calculus Advising session one week before your orientation date. These sessions are offered remotely (zoom/phone) by math faculty who will help you select your best option for enrollment in a calculus course in Autumn.
To sign up for a calculus advising session, complete the required questionnaire, and to view a complete course selection (including calculus) please visit the Summer 2024 Calculus Advising website.
Spatial Visualization Test (SVT)
This assessment is completed as part of the orientation process for incoming students to the College of Engineering at The Ohio State University. This assessment should take 30 to 60 minutes to complete. Your result will help you determine whether or not you should consider enrolling in a spatial visualization course (ENGR 1180) during your first semester of enrollment.
You should take the assessment in a quiet place where you can focus and have reliable internet access. You do not need any additional items such as scrap paper, calculators, or other resources.
