Baked Twisted Bacon Recipe

My teenagers always like to keep me updated with the latest food trends on TikTok. I can be a little skeptical sometimes, but every now and then a trend comes along that I actually really like! This twisted bacon is just that! It’s easy, it’s delicious, and the twisted shape adds a subtle change in texture to a classic breakfast side. And if you’re wanting more easy and delicious breakfast recipes, find my full list here!

My favorite things about this twisted bacon are that it’s super easy to make and mess-free! No need to fry in oil or keep checking to see if it’s cooked through. All you have to do is twist, lay your bacon out on a pan, and then pop it in the oven! It’s so hands-off but turns out perfectly crispy and delicious every time! Serve it as a quick and easy snack or alongside my tried and true scrambled eggs for a breakfast the whole family will love!

Everything You Need to Make It

Nothing fancy needed here! All this method requires is your favorite bacon, a baking sheet, and a little aluminum foil!

  • Bacon: I used regular bacon here, but feel free to experiment with different flavors and thicknesses!
  • Baking Sheet: This recipe makes a lot of bacon, so be sure to use a baking sheet large enough to accommodate it all!
  • Aluminum Foil: I like to line my baking sheet with a layer of aluminum foil to help the bacon crisp up nicely and catch excess grease. (It also makes for an easy cleanup!)

How to Make Twisted Bacon

Twisted bacon is beyond easy to make and I love that it’s mess-free! Pan-frying bacon can be a little tedious, that’s why this method and using an air fryer are my new go-tos! It makes preparing breakfast a breeze.

  1. Preheat Oven: First, preheat your oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit.
  2. Twist Bacon, Add to Pan: Twist the bacon tightly. Place them closely on the baking sheet so they don’t unravel.
  3. Bake: Cook for 20 minutes. Flip and cook an additional 10-15 minutes until the bacon has reached the desired crispiness.

Tips and Variations

Customize and perfect your twisted bacon with these easy tips and tricks! It’s so tasty, you won’t want bacon any other way. Thanks, TikTok!

  • Cook One Layer at a Time: Don’t worry about spacing out your bacon too much. You need your twists to be close together so they don’t unravel. Just make sure you only cook one layer at a time! If you stack your bacon it may not cook through properly.
  • Different Flavors: To jazz up your twisted bacon, try sprinkling a little lemon pepper, Cajun, or Italian seasoning on top before baking!
  • Serve With: These bacon twists are the perfect shape for dipping! Try serving them with honey mustard, ranch, or BBQ sauce!

Storing Leftovers

We’ve all been there, your eyes were bigger than your stomach and you made too much bacon. Good news is, your twisted bacon can be stored and used for a quick snack or in other dishes! Crumble it to add on top of a wedge salad, or throw it in bacon cheeseburger soup!

  • In the Refrigerator: Store leftover twisted bacon in an airtight container or Ziploc bag for up to 5 days.
  • To Reheat: You can reheat your bacon in the microwave for 30 seconds or until warm, or pop it in the air fryer for 2-3 minutes at 400 degrees F.

FAQs

Why do you twist bacon before cooking? ›

Twisting bacon allows it to cook more evenly and locks in that greasy goodness. It gives you the perfect combination of chewy and crispy. Also, since it is twisted, instead of flat it gives you much more space for … you guessed it… MORE BACON!

What is the secret to perfect bacon? ›

1: Line a rimmed baking sheet with foil or parchment paper, and lay out as many bacon strips as will fit snuggly without overlapping. 2: Place in a cold oven. Then heat the oven to 400 degrees F and bake to desired crispness, 25 to 35 minutes. 3: Drain well on a paper-towel-lined platter.

Why do chefs add water to bacon? ›

Why Does Cooking Bacon in Water Work? The addition of water keeps the initial cooking temperature low and gentle, so the meat retains its moisture and stays tender as the fat renders. Plus, since the water helps render the fat, there will be significantly less splatter as your bacon finishes in the pan.

Why do you rinse bacon before cooking? ›

So really, you are doing nothing more than warming up your bacon before putting in your pan and… warming it up to cook. Also, running cold water on your bacon to keep it from shrinking also washes off any of the delicious seasonings and rubs that might been added if you purchased a flavored bacon.

What seasoning makes bacon taste better? ›

Even though it doesn't necessarily come with a mild flavor, bacon is a total blank canvas. With the help of some extra ingredients and spices for your bacon, you can take its original savory, salty, and smoky flavor and enhance it with things like chili powder and coffee, Sriracha, maple syrup, brown sugar, or honey.

Does sprinkling flour on bacon make it crispy? ›

You take strips of bacon and place them on a baking sheet, then sprinkle all-purpose flour on top and bake at 400 degrees Fahrenheit for 20 to 25 minutes. I was surprised to find out how great this worked. The flour definitely helped to give the bacon a crispier texture and nicer color than the other methods I tried.

Why does bacon taste better at restaurants? ›

The reason bacon from a diner consistently tastes better than homemade bacon is because it's pre-cooked. Surprisingly, this is the secret to achieving a comparable breakfast hit at home. And to get there, you just need a few additional steps.

How do Americans get their bacon crispy? ›

Tried and true, this is the way I learned to cook bacon: Lay the strips in a cold skillet, place over medium-low to medium heat, flip and fry until you reach your desired doneness and then transfer to a plate lined with paper towels to drain.

Why does my bacon never get crispy? ›

As with other meats, allow some room between strips, about an inch, when placing bacon in the pan. Crowding creates steam and prevents the bacon from cooking evenly, giving you limp bacon instead of crispy strips. Cook in batches if needed.

What ingredient to avoid in bacon? ›

The health risk of bacon is largely to do with two food additives: potassium nitrate (also known as saltpetre) and sodium nitrite. It is these that give salamis, bacons and cooked hams their alluring pink colour.

Do you have to flip bacon while cooking it? ›

Step away for a minute to slice a tomato for a BLT and your bacon could throw a toddler-level tantrum. But oven-cooked bacon allows you to live your life for 18 minutes or so while the pork does its thing. You don't have to flip it, press it, or shield your kitchen from grease.

Should you constantly flip bacon? ›

I recommend flipping the bacon halfway through, in my experience it makes a better looking and crispier bacon. However, if you are in a hurry or cooking a lot of things at once, you can skip flipping the bacon.

Does bacon need to be turned? ›

Cooked on a rack

Sit the rack on tray, lay the bacon over the rack in a single layer and bake for 10-15 mins, until cooked and the fat is crisp around the edges – there is no need to turn.

When should you flip the bacon? ›

There is no need to continually flip your bacon while it cooks. Allow it to cook evenly by flipping it only once, just as you would a good steak. Over medium heat, you can expect this flip to come around the ten minute mark, but all appliances are different so be sure to keep an eye on it.
