This recipe for air fryer roasted figs is so simple to make, yet the flavors are incredibly complex. All you need are three ingredients: fresh figs, sugar, and cinnamon! Yum.
Air Fryer Roasted Figs
I recently was making a batch of my homemade fig jam and had a couple of fresh figs leftover. After I made a similar recipe using baked apples in the air fryer, I decided to try roasting the leftover fresh figs in the air fryer. They turned out delicious!
The cut side of the fig is sweet and caramelized from the sugar. It even has a subtle spiciness from the cinnamon! The skin of the fresh fig has a slight crisp to it. So, when you go take a bite, it has a delicious chew to it. I want to eat them all!
Trust me, if you have ever enjoyed a Fig Newton or any kind of fig bar, you’ll love this air fried treat.
I will definitely be making these air fried figs more often while they are in season.
If you want to try this recipe but don’t have an air fryer, that’s okay. With those same three ingredients, you can easily roast those fresh figs in the oven. Take a look at this post to find out how! And if you do want to get an air fryer, click here to see a model I recommend.
How To Air Fry Fresh Figs
In a small bowl, mix together some cinnamon and sugar. Put it off to the side to use later.
Cut the fresh figs in half lengthwise and discard the stem. The best knife to use to cut the figs is the serrated knife, as it produces the cleanest cut without crushing the figs.
Dip or sprinkle the cinnamon-sugar mixture onto the figs (cut side only).
Arrange the figs cut-side up in the air fryer basket in a single layer. Make sure to not overcrowd the basket so they all cook evenly.
Cook the fresh figs in the air fryer at 400 degrees for 10 minutes. Let them cool slightly and enjoy!
Cooking Tips
If you are wondering if you can use dry figs for this recipe, you can…it just won’t be quite the same. Dry figs tend to have more of a chewy texture (think raisins) and by using them in this recipe, you can’t get that same juicy, caramelized texture you would using a fresh fig.
If you want to try using dried figs, you’ll have to first soak them in water overnight to reconstitute them. Also, with soaked dried figs reduce the cooking time to 4 minutes to avoid overdrying them.
What To Serve With Roasted Figs
I love to serve roasted figs with a little bit of honey drizzled over the top and a scoop of vanilla ice cream- Soooo yum!
If you are looking for a more savory flavor profile, you can cut the fresh figs and wrap them in thinly sliced bacon and serve as an appetizer. The contrast between the slight sweetness of the fig and the saltiness of the bacon is truly an amazing combination of flavors for anyone who loves sweet and salty together!
You can make your own cheese platter to serve as an appetizer or dessert and pair the roasted figs with some goat cheese, sliced prosciutto, drizzled balsamic vinegar, and a freshly baked baguette.
