Easiest way is to in fact kill a Rockman which won't run away and takes no damage from fire. Kill the crew of a ship with a fire on it. Make sure it has enough hull to survive a few systems breaking.

The best weapons are of course the holy trio of FTL: Burst Laser II, Flak I, Halberd Beam.

Upgrade your doors and make a path from the Airlock to where the intruders are. Early game your systems will be weak and will get destroyed causing Hull damage before the O2 vents. So open ALL doors but close your Medbay, the AI always flee's to rooms with O2 so they will come to you in the Medbay. This right here.

To get to the secret sector (Hidden Crystal Worlds), the player must first encounter the Dense asteroid field distress call event and acquire the Damaged Stasis Pod. Then, arrive at a Zoltan research facility which will give a blue event option asking the Zoltan if they can fix it.

At the new quest beacon, choose to tail the enemy ships instead of trying to go charging in, then choose whichever Blue option you have. You'll get in a fight where the enemy is powering up FTL to get away. Destroy the ship or kill the crew and congratulations, you get the Slug Cruiser.
